The D8 Visa, also known as Portugal’s Digital Nomad Visa, is designed for remote workers, freelancers, and self-employed professionals earning active income from non-Portuguese sources. To qualify, applicants must demonstrate a stable monthly income of around €3,280–€3,480 (about four times Portugal’s minimum wage) through remote employment or service contracts. They must provide proof of ongoing work, such as client agreements or employer letters. The visa supports both temporary and long-term stays, allows family reunification, and offers a path to permanent residency or citizenship after five years. It is ideal for individuals who wish to live in Portugal while working remotely for clients or companies abroad.
